Shown above is a long view of the rows of Confederate markers with the monument at its entrance. The photo on the right shows the detail of the monument which was erected by the Seven Confederate Knights Chapter #2625, dedicated by the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 2003.

ROCK ISLAND BARRACKS CEMETERY



Rock Island Prison, built in 1863, was located on a government-owned island in the Mississippi River between Davenport, Iowa and Rock Island - Moline, Illinois. Over 12,000 Confederates were imprisoned there during the war.

These included many 38th Infantry soldiers captured at Missionary Ridge. More than 1960 southern soldiers are buried in the prison cemetery.
