BATTLE OF CHICKAMAUGA - SEPTEMBER 19-20, 1863

Gen. Braxton Bragg's Confederate Army attacked Gen. William Rosencrans' Union Army forcing a Union retreat to Chattanooga, Tennessee. There were 34,000 total causalties. The 18,000 Confederate losses included 37 men from the 38th Alabama. In addition, 151 soldiers of the 38th were wounded and five were missing.

Brotherton Cabin at Chickamauga   "General Clayton claimed for his brigade that it was the first and last in General Alexander P. Steward's Division to encounter the Union forces at Chickamauga, and the first in the Army to pierce the Federal center and cross the Chattanooga Road on Saturday evening, September 19, 1963, near Brotherton's House." Lookout Mountain  Clayton's Brigade was sent to Lookout Mountain late in the afternoon of November 24, 1965, to relieve a Mississippi and an Alabama brigade.
