James Leon Windham photographed the gravestones of the eleven 38th Alabama veterans buried at
Camp Chase. These men are only a small fraction of the 2035 Confederate soldiers buried there.
B.T. Windham (photo bottom right) is a great uncle of the photographer. He was only 16 years old when captured in the battle of Nashville, turned 17 on February 5, and died on February 28.
