Pvt. John T. Champion, Co B, 38th Alabama Infantry Regiment, was born June 13, 1840, and died June 15, 1922. He is buried in the Kelly Cemetery in Yellow Bluff/Pine Hill, Alabama.




Pvt. James W. Smith - Member of the Autauga Minute Men, 4th Alabama Volunteer Militia, Company B. Member of the Bell Rifles, 38th Alabama Infantry Regiment, Company H. Captured near Nashville, Tennessee on December 11, 1864. Signed oath of allegiance at Camp Chase, Columbus, Ohio and released on June 13, 1865. Age 25, eyes blue, hair dark, complexion dark, 5' 5 1/2". Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery, Prattville, Alabama.




Pvt. Wilson L. Weaver, 38th Alabama Infantry Regiment, Company K, appears on a Roll of Prisoners of War surrendered by Lt. General Richard Taylor on May 4, 1865. Paroled at Selma, Alabama in June 1865. Residence - Autauga County, Alabama. Buried at the Weaver Family Cemetery in Northwest Autauga County.

John T. Reed, originally a member of the Autauga Minute Men, 4th Alabama Volunteer Militia, Co B, reenlisted into the Bell Rifles, Company H, 38th Alabama, on May 13, 1862 at Ft. Gaines, Alabama.

He was captured near Atlanta by the 16th U.S. Army Corps July 22, 1864, and was received as a POW at Military Prison, Louisville, KY on July 30. He was fowarded to Camp Chase, Columbus, OH Aug 2; paroled at Camp Chase; and transferred to City Point, VA for exchange on Mar 4, 1865. Reed was received at Boulware's & Cox's Wharves, James River, VA. in March among 3,499 paroled POWs including 143 officers. He was admitted to General Hospital No. 9, Richmond, VA March 12, 1865.

He was furloughed for 30 days, then was surrendered at Cintronelle, AL by Lt. Gen. Richard Taylor in May 1865. He was paroled at Selma, AL May 28, 1865. His pension was filed by widow Laura E. Reed at Autauga County, May 25, 1921. Both are buried at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church at Jones in Autauga County. Her marker is shown below. Back to Company H




Thomas Bolton, Co. H, 38th Alabama Infantry, is buried in Antioch Cemetery, near Milledgeville, Conecuh County, Alabama


Frank Talbert, Company H, entered Robert E. Lee Camp of Confederate Soldiers Home in Richmond, Virginia, on August 5, 1902. He was 69 years old. Talbert was discharged and permanently admitted again on June 14, 1907. He died in the Soldier's Home in Richmond on September 9, 1916, and is buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia..
